When I first started creating content, I had no idea what to even call myself.
Like…was i an influencer? A UGC creator? Or just “a girl with a ring light making tiktok for brands”? (all technically true btw).
And honestly, brands get confused too.

UGC is content you create for brands - not your own page. So think TikToks, Reels, or photos they can use on their socials, in ads, or on their website.
It’s not about your following - it’s about creating content that feels native, relatable, and scroll-stopping.
Influencers post to their own audience.
And brands pay them because they want access to that community.
So If you’ve got 1k, 10k, or 100k+ followers who actually trust you? That’s goooold as you’re basically renting out your reach.
And sometimes, they want both (aka where you win)
For example:→ You film a TikTok for them to use as an ad (UGC).→ You also post it on your page for reach (influencer).

Honestly? If you can, both.
UGC pays the bills but influencing builds your brand long-term.
Buuuut if you’re new, UGC is the fastest way in 😎 (no 10k followers required). And once you grow your audience? Add influencer work into the mix!!
If you’re offer both, make it obvious:
“I create UGC that performs in ads and I share influencer-style content with my {number} followers. I also offer whitelisting options so you can run ads through my page.”
That one line? chef’s kiss.
So next time someone asks if you’re an influencer or a UGC creator, just smile and say:“Well… depends on the brand, depends on the deal. Sometimes both.”
Because honestly? You don’t need to pick a box.
You just need to know the difference - so you can pitch smart, charge right, and not undersell yourself.
